Writing & Publishing News:
Thursday,” a poem by Evangeline Delgado, W & P 11, of Bozeman, Montana, received an Honorable Mention in the 2010 Nancy Thorp Poetry Contest, sponsored by the Department of English at Hollins University, and was named a finalist in the Poetry Society of America’s annual Louise Louis/Emily F. Bourne Student Award for the best unpublished poem by a high school student from the United States. (Two poems by the 2010 Bishop Prize winner in Verse, Haeyeon Cho, join “Thursday” on the Honorable Mention list for the Nancy Thorp Poetry Contest. Both of Cho’s poems will appear this spring on The Blue Pencil Online.)

Kevin Hong, W & P 11, received special merit in the Patricia Grodd Poetry Prize run by the editors of The Kenyon Review. Read more here.

Gabriella Fee, W & P 10, of Lincoln, Massachusetts, has won the Silver Award for a portfolio of verse and prose that qualified for the National Round of judging in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards, run by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers to honor “exceptional artistic and literary talent.” Gabriella has been invited to attend the National Awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall in early June. Mary Carter, W & P 10, Kevin Hong, ‘11, Laura Wanamaker, ‘12, and Elana Yoffie, ‘12, all received regional recognition. Read more here.

The Blue Pencil Online is edited and produced by the students in the Writing & Publishing Program at Walnut Hill School for the Arts, in Natick, Massachusetts. The magazine seeks to publish the best of literary work in English by young writers (12–18) around the world.
